Welcome to the Catholic Schools Guide, 2011

Catholic Schools Guide, 2011

Catholic Schools Guide, 2011

Catholic schools offer something that is special and fundamentally
different. The Catholic Schools Guide has been published to provide
feature profile on Victorian Catholic secondary schools in order to
give parents of prospective students easy-to- access essential
information. The magazine is published annually.

The cover of the 2011 edition (pictured right) features the crests of
the 39 Victorian Catholic Secondary Colleges who are profiled.

All information contained in the printed Guide is available at this
website. To read a profile on a College, simply click the Finding A
School icon. Both the publication and the website feature Victorian
Catholic Secondary Colleges with other States to come on board in
future editions. To receive a hard copy of the publication simply join
the mailing list and then send me an e-mail and we shall post you a
free copy.

Catholic Schools Guide, Victoria

The Catholic system divides Victoria into four dioceses. The largest of
these, by number of schools, is the Archdiocese of Melbourne, which
stretches from the Bellarine Peninsula, across Central Victoria, down
to the Mornington Peninsula, while taking in greater Metropolitan
Melbourne.

Catholic Education

Catholic Colleges continue to deliver success against academic
measures. For example, in 2009, 97% of Catholic Secondary Colleges had
a median study score at or above the average range (28-32); while all
schools had satisfactory VCE completion rates of at least 97%.

In a 2007 report published by the Australian Council for Education
Research (ACER) as part of the Longitudinal Surveys of Australian
Youth, a research program jointly managed by ACER and the Australian
Government Department of Education, Science and Training, the author
Gary Marks found that in terms of university course completion
rates....

"Students who had attended Catholic secondary schools showed the
highest levels of expected course completion (88% for any course).
There was little difference in course completion between students who
attended government (79%) and independent schools (81%)."

Feature Editorials

Catholic Schools, both primary and secondary, are renowned across the
education system for their extraordinary commitment to social justice
and community engagement. But, to quote Bishop Hilton Deakin, who so
eloquently says in his feature article, "Catholic schools don't own
social justice, but social justice owns Catholic schools." For me this
means if Catholic schools don't have social justice as an essential
plank in their teaching, then they are missing out on a fairly
important key to the teachings of Jesus Christ.

Master in Applied Linguistics, Stephen Campitelli explores issues
around language and how it empowers change and action. I am also
grateful to Professor Marie Emmitt who has an enlightening piece on the
Australian Catholic University, which as some `wag' recently asked me
"whether or not it was a place where you become a better qualified
Catholic?"

One constant that seems to echo across the ages is the single-sex
versus co-ed debate. The choice in relation to gender-based education
is always dependent on many factors. In the site, you will find five of
our leading principals sharing their thoughts on this issue.

Caritas Australia

The Catholic Schools Guide is delighted to be supporting the wonderful
work of Caritas Australia. Caritas is a phenomenal worldwide
organisation that is committed to the 8 Millennium Development Goals in
an attempt to halve global poverty by the year 2015. The CSG urges all
readers to make a donation directly via caritas.au or get
students involved at school through Project Compassion and be part of a
`blueprint for a better world'.

Essential Tips

Many parents ask me for advice when visiting schools. So I have written
a short booklet with 23 `essential tips' to help parents when
considering a College for their child. Remember, one size does not fit
all. Each child is special and many have particular needs that certain
schools are more adept at delivering than others. Ask lots of
questions, read the prospectus, go to more than one Open Day and take a
tour on an ordinary school day. You can purchase a copy by clicking on
the icon over on the left hand column.

Find other ZORGIUM pages using AZ.COM:

Enter your search keyword(s) into the search input field of http://az.com
The zorgium specific results appear in the right hand margin.

Find other ZORGIUM pages using your favorite search engine:

Enter your search keyword(s) and the keyword "zorgium" into the search input field of http://bing.com, http://yahoo.com or http://google.com.

Heads up: There's an ongoing spamdexing of Google searchbot algorithms. Sites that are 'copies of copies' and cloaked sites which include Zorgium keywords presented to search engine crawlers yet garbage content presented to human visitors were hosted on thousands of IP addresses and domains registered immediately after the introduction of Zorgium in November of 2009. The Hostgator/'The Planet'/Softlayer datacenters in Texas seem to be the epicenter of this activity in conjunction with anonymously registered domains of various TLD's but primarily .info domains at Godaddy which, in our opinion, has some sort of connection to the domains of goldmint.in and goldmint.org. Google has begun to notice this and has begun to lower the ranking of these sites and put our original sites back on top of the search rankings. These actions, as far as we can tell, negatively impact the use of the keyword 'zorgium' as a search term and provided little benefit, if any, to the perpetrators.

ZORGIUM note to content providers: If you don't want your page to appear in Zorgium's search abstraction then put an exclusion for "Zorgium" in your web server's robots.txt file.
